Quoting Policy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you reply to a message, Power-QWK assembles a reply file
containing the body of the message to which you are replying.
Your editor program is then called so that you can modify the
reply file, adding your own message and optionally retaining
part or all of the original message.
The body of the original message can be optionally highlighted
using any combination of three strings known as Preamble,
Postamble and Quoting String.
For instance, if you select a Quoting String of ">" with no
Preamble or Postamble and ask for 'First of message' Quoting
Style then, when you reply to a message from John or Jane Doe,
their message in the reply file will be highlighted thus:
JD>This is the original
>message from John or
>Jane Doe.
>and this is the second
>paragraph.
You could ask for 'Head of paragraph' Quoting Style, in which case
the same message would look like this:
JD>This is the original
>message from John or
>Jane Doe.
JD>and this is the second
>paragraph.
Optionally, you can elect to have the sender's initials on every
line:
JD>This is the original
JD>message from John or
JD>Jane Doe.
JD>and this is the second
JD>paragraph.
If, however, you choose a Quoting string of "║" with a Preamble
of " ╔══════════" and a Postamble of " ╚═════════" then the
sender's message will be highlighted as shown below (again, you
could have the sender's initials on every line or just at the
head of each paragraph if you wish):
╔══════════
JD║This is the original
║message from John or
║Jane Doe.
║
║and this is the second
║paragraph.
╚══════════
Power-QWK offers a choice of two types of Preamble, two types of
Postamble and five types of quoting string. You also have the
option of creating your own strings, or not using any of the
strings, or using any subset of Preamble, Postamble and Quoting
String.
You can also opt for Quoting styles of 'First in message', 'None',
'Head of paragraph' or 'All lines'.
